Hi! My name is Anna Peru. I LOVE food! Like… a lot! I have a bag in my purse that says, “Might be makeup. Might be snacks.” 9 times out of 10, its snacks!

My grandma first inspired me to cook. She made mouth watering Filipino dishes and treats and never used recipes! A dash of this, a taste of that, and presto! She made magic in her tiny kitchen. I loved visiting Hawaii just for the sweet steamed cakes, Portuguese sausage, and mountains of crispy lumpia!

I grew up tasting amazing food! Mochiko chicken, barbecued kalbi, bratwurst and spaetzle, and homemade bread with butter were the highlights of my young life. Despite being a picky eater as a child, I came to adore food! Eventually eating was not enough. I wanted learn how to make my own memories! I became hooked on recreating dishes I discovered through travel so I could keep the happy times alive!

I’m a voice teacher, new wife, and owner of the happiest dog alive! If you are like me, then you love cooking, hate washing dishes, and don’t always have time for fancy meals! I enjoy cooking as a way to unwind. I watch bread rise like it is one of my favorite TV episodes, and I am still learning how to dinner plan so we are not accidentally eating at midnight…I have a very patient husband! If this sounds like your cup of tea then stick around!

This blog is me learning how to juggle teaching music full time, budgeting on a teacher’s salary, and creating delicious memories through food! My food is an edible diary. It represents my family, core memories, and moments that have shaped my life. Follow along as I cook food inspired by my Filipino, Japanese, and German roots, influenced by history, travel around the world, and my own taste buds! Welcome to my happy place!

At the age of 12, I started volunteering as a living history interpreter at an 1840’s National Historic Site. I often cooked the meals in the 19th century reproduction kitchen fireplace and brick oven. As I grew older (but not much taller! haha ), I became the lead cook and the nickname “Le Mini Chef” began. The name stuck, and this is where my joy for cooking really began to take off!
Besides my husband, Kea is my biggest fan! She would love to be my official taste tester…but that isn’t going to happen! She helps out as my assistant instead!
Travel has definitely inspired me food-wise. Food really can turn into core memories!
By recreating special treats and flavors from my favorite places, I can travel back whenever I want!
