Butter Pecan Tea Poached Pears
I’m truly in love with this recipe. Poached pears sound like a difficult and fancy dessert. However, it’s just gently simmering pears for about 25 minutes. Not tricky at all! The scents of brown sugar, spiced black tea, cinnamon, white chocolate, and toasty pecans waft through the air. Even though you’ve never had this tea before, butter pecan tea brings a nostalgic feeling to your kitchen. So where do you get this amazing tea blend? Keep scrolling and I’ll tell you!
Tea Bakes!
I am in love with tea bakes! As fall marches into a golden November, this is the perfect dessert to celebrate tea season! Washington gets drenched in rain this time of year. It’s dark, chilly, and damp…perfect weather for a cup of tea! As a voice teacher, I rely on tea to keep my voice hydrated while teaching. Usually it’s something basic like mint or sleepy time tea. However, if I really wanna get fancy, I go for the loose leaf magic of Suttle Tea!
Singers Pro Tip: DON’T drink black tea or green tea before you need to sing. The caffeine dries out your vocal folds! Opt for herbal teas like mint and honey! It’s the best! π
Suttle Tea makes my favorite tea blends of all time. Fun fact! You can order their teas online! However, you can always make this poached pear recipe with any other kind of loose leaf black tea blend. I would recommend one that has hints of coconut, cinnamon, and vanilla. The flavor profile will be similar to the butter pecan tea. Again, I am not sponsored by Suttle Tea. I just LOVE making extra special treats with their teas besides drinking them.
How Do You Infuse the Pears?
Reusable tea bags are essential. When I first started experimenting with tea bakes, I was constantly frustrated with how messy and time consuming it was to strain out the tea leaves. It also added unnecessary dishes which is the worst! I discovered that reusable tea bags made from muslin or a piece of cheese cloth tied into a bundle work wonders! You can remove the tea mess-free and wash the bag for future use! You can also use a metal tea strainer, however, I wasn’t sure if metal tea strainers can be left in a pot to simmer for long periods of time.
Let’s Make Butter Pecan Tea Poached Pears
Choose Your Variety!
I prefer Bosc pears, but I have done this with Bartlett and D’Anjou with delicious results! Choose pears that are on the firm side. If they are too ripe the pears will be really soft and potentially disintegrate.
Prepare Your Pears!
Peel and cut a little off the bottom of your pears. This allows them to stand without falling over. Core your pears to remove the seeds. I don’t own an apple corer, so I use a round teaspoon. It works like a charm!
Simmer and Steep the Butter Pecan Tea!
Bring water to boil in a medium saucepan. Spoon your Suttle Butter Pecan tea into a reusable tea bag or strainer. Once boiling, add the sugar, tea bag, cinnamon, and vanilla to the saucepan. Continue simmering to melt the sugar.
Add the pears to the tea, cover, and simmer 25 minutes. If your pears are not fully submerged, gently flip them over halfway through to cook evenly. Make sure it isn’t boiling! We don’t want to overcook the pears.
Syrup Time!
Gently remove the pears with a slotted spoon and set aside. Remove the tea and press the tea bag gently to remove excess liquid. Throw in the extra pear ends and bring the liquid to a boil over medium high heat. Continue to boil uncovered until the liquid is reduce by half and is the consistency to honey or maple syrup. This takes about 30 minutes. You will have a lovely tea infused pear syrup! Remove the cinnamon stick and pear bits and pour syrup into a a jar for serving.
The Options are Endless!
Enjoy your poached pears with creamy vanilla ice-cream and drizzle the tea infused syrup! I’ve added these poached pears to pie fillings and croustades. I have even served them alongside vanilla yogurt and granola for a fun brunch item! I hope you enjoy this unique take on poached pears as much as I do! Next time you crave some cozy tea, make a batch of butter pecan tea poached pears to go with it!
