Is there anything better than spicy meat, veggies, guacamole, melty cheese, refreshing salsa, and tangy sour cream wrapped in a cozy warm tortilla blanket? I love how fast you can whip up burritos and tacos. Even a stressful day turns into a great night when burritos are involved!
Life as a teacher is getting insanely hectic. Last week was spring break, and we are now barreling 100 mph towards the finish line. As a music teacher, spring is a season filled with rehearsals, shows, performances, and recitals. So much is happening after school that eating out every night gets REALLY tempting! Unfortunately, eating out also eats into your wallet pretty quick.
Thankfully tacos and burritos were invented to be super fast, filling, and tasty! I first started making my own taco seasoning right after we got married. It had been a long day and tacos sounded great! I opened the cupboard and…GASP! The taco seasoning was gone.
I’m not the only one who still needs to get better at grocery lists right??
Thankfully, I happened to have all the spices I needed. Now I never want to buy another packet of taco seasoning again!
Is It Worth the Hype?
I love this taco mix. It’s got the perfect punch of spice from the chili powder and red pepper flakes. You get a hint of smokiness from the smoked paprika, and a touch of citrus from lemon peel.
But why would you make it as opposed to buying it?
Did I mention that this mix is ridiculously easy to throw together? If you have an empty jar (somehow empty jars accumulate over time) all you need to do is add the ingredients, shake the jar, and voilΓ ! Taco seasoning!
Besides Tacos
You can also use this seasoning in rice, on chicken, pork or beef. Add it to your sides like salsa or even sour cream! I’ve used this in nachos and even marinades.
Customization!
The beauty of making your own spice mix is that you can adjust and customize the flavor to your personal taste. If the seasoning has too much heat, add less next time. If it needs more garlic or salt, it’s completely up to you!
I love how cooking can be so personal. It turns everyday food into something really special. Even if life is hectic, it’s worth spending a little time in the kitchen. Food makes everything better!
Bonus! Save this recipe for gifts! It’s the perfect present for the foodie in your life! I have designed some beautiful gift labels that you can download for free! You can find them on my blog post called 5 Edible Foodie Christmas Gifts: Teacher Approved.
